maint: eliminate unnecessary explicit Makefile variable substitutions
* common.mk: Eliminate simple VAR = @VAR@ substitutions. Automake
generates these for us.
* configure.ac (ldpreloadsep): Mark with AM_SUBST_NOTMAKE.
